Battery Park

This is an abstract of Battery Park in southern Manhattan. I took a series of photos of the gardens when they were blooming with hundreds of tulips. I loved the splashes of color everywhere, and the dappled sunlight coming through the tree tops. 

From this vantage point, I am staring out towards the water. Can you see the lines of the railing on the left? And do you see the silhouette of the man sitting on the bench on the right? 

It's a wonderful park where many people gather during the day. There are numerous boats that can be taken for a ride on the Hudson River - the Statue of Liberty just reopened to the public on July 4th. Ellis Island is, unfortunately, still closed. Both were badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy's storm surge. 

By the way, if you are ever in NYC and in lower Manhattan here, be sure to check into taking the Staten Island Ferry. It's a wonderful ride (about 1/2 an hour) from Battery Park to Staten Island. You then simply get off & get on another to return to Manhattan. The ferry's go past the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island (they do not stop) and give a wonderful view of the harbor & river. On a spring, summer or fall afternoon it is wonderful - always a nice breeze by the water. And why is it so great to do? Because IT IS FREE!!!! Yes, the Staten Island Ferry ride is free in both directions. So put it on your list next time you are here!
