30 in 30 Days - Day 3 - Winter Walk

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas panel
Available through DPW gallery/auction

Have you ever gone on a winter walk in the snow? It is so different than a spring or summer walk. Firstly, it is quieter - with less people & less noise, as many people stay indoors for the winter. Secondly, it seems cleaner! All that lovely white snow covering the litter & debris, and it also covers any imperfections in the ground or trees. Thirdly, it gives you a chance to find yourself again.

Sometimes when I walk, I am alone, and I can hear the sound of my footsteps on the snow - crunching. To be alone in the world, anywhere, is a rather somber thing. It can help to center you, I think.  Sometimes I have the company of a bird or 2 (or 8!) all chattering overhead. They make me laugh as I watch them chatter away, often all at the same time! When I am upstate NY, the neighbors large dog often finds me & tags along. I enjoy his company, and his 14 years doesn't slow him down from enjoying the romp & the snow. Just be sure, if you go out, to wear good clothing so "being cold" doesn't alter your plans or make you uncomfortable. You'll enjoy the walk better if you are warm, and it'll give your mind a chance to clear itself of it's own clutter & debris.

It's moments like these that I always feel are good for the soul.

I have been so happy that we are actually getting some snow this winter! This is such a lovely scene, and you have painted it beautifully.

We've gotten little snow and what has dropped as disappeared within hours. But this is just gorgeous and I can imagine a horse drawn sleigh on this path and gas lit light posts. Beautiful piece, Nan!

Hi Nan, Love how those lights lead you into the painting and the overall painting is beautiful

How did I miss this post? I love it. A difficult subject as well. It would make a great Christmas card.
