30 in 30 Days - Day 1 - Coating of Snow

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas panel
Available through DPW gallery/auction

Today is day 1 of my 30 paintings in 30 days. I've been interested in painting snow lately, love the subtle shades within the white of the snow. I wanted to enhance those, as well as bring out the cold of the snow. I used Indanthrene Blue within the water & it's edges, and Dioxazine Purple in the shadows of the snow. Both colors enhanced the cold effects. For balance, I used Burnt Sienna in the twigs and branches - to add touches of warmth. The overhanging green pine branches are done in Sap Green Deep.

This is one of my absolute favorites of the challenge so far! Looking forward to seeing what we all make in the next 30 days.

It is the pine branches that keep drawing my eyes. Beautiful work, Nan!

Thank you Janin, Sherry & Nancy, appreciate your comments. I love painting snow, so I'm sure quite a few snow scenes will be in my 30 Day challenge paintings.
