Winter Stream - SOLD

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas panel

I have decided to post my winter stream paintings and will be putting them up for auction over on DPW. Right now, upstate NY has snow everywhere and it has inspired me to paint snow! It can be so beautiful.

This first one is of a winter stream with snow covered branches & trees. The stream runs regardless of the temperature, although when the mercury drops below zero it does ice over. There are countless streams such as this, winding throughout NY state, and they make a perfect picture.

This painting was done with a very limited palette of only Paynes Gray, Titanium White & Indanthrene Blue. I was trying to get a cold, snowy look - and I think the combination from these colors achieves that. Working with a limited palette is a good exercise - it forces you to concentrate on "values" and not just colors, to achieve depth.

On a side note: I just signed on to Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. This will be a true challenge for me, as I work full-time (not as an artist, but I wish it were), so each painting will have only a few hours each evening to be completed. As I am into the winter & snow scene of late, that may be my subject. But I will need to spend less time on details & do more representational brushstrokes. This should be interesting!

Nan. It's gorgeous. Might be one of your best ever - except for the Traveling Chicken, of course ;-))

Happy New Year my faraway friend.

Had to bid on this one, Nancie. I love winter scenes and this is just so stunning to me. I've also been to upstate NY in the winter and have been just blown away by the beauty. I have some great memories of being there at this time of year. Hope I win!
