Coleus

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet

One of my all time favorite, summertime annual plant - Coleus is always so varied in style, color & design. I make a point of buying these plants every year. And every year I plant them in a good size pot, and water the heck out of them, and keep them in full sun. They do prefer shade, or part shade, but I have found that with ample water, they will tolerate the sun - at least where I am, which is zone 6.

Pinch the flowers off when they happen, it'll keep the leaves going - and they are the true show stopper. And this plant is easily rooted as well. Clip off stems, put in water & they will root. Then simply plant in dirt. I've not had luck with this plant in my home for the winter, although I know others that have. I don't think I get enough light for it to survive the winters indoors. So every spring, I'm back at the garden center, and I make a point of buying them!
