Loire Valley in France

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This was done for Lee's March challenge over on A Day Not Wasted. Lee always has wonderful photographs that he shares, and each month designates one image as that months challenge. Only for this month, he offered two variations on this image. One as the regular photograph which captures all of the details. The second image was digitally altered, giving everything a smoother, less-detailed look. And also, simplified the busy scene into more recognizable shapes.

I often bring my photographs for painting into Photoshop, and will alter them to get a "look" that I want. I have also edited them to try & get a better balance to the composition. Not that any of my altered photos are worthy of anyone's view - they are simply roughed in sketches & edits, only what I need to see to paint from.

I used Lee's simplified photo to do this painting, mostly because it mimic'd my "shapes" style so much - I just could not resist.
