The Bicycle on the Piazza - SOLD

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This month the Virtual Paintout is visiting the isle of Elba, Tuscany, Italy. Beautiful area, just beautiful. I found many places to capture but this piazza was just too irresistible. The colors of the building, the plants & flowers, the walkway and the lone bicycle - I had to paint this one. The Google map location can be seen here. The name of the location is a combination of a variety of places: Piazza Giovanni de Verazzano / Piazza San Gaetano / Via Bellavista / Via Nino Bixio

Can't you just see yourself walking up these steps, surrounded by flowers - the air full of their scent. The warm sun shining on your face, casting shadows across the sides of the buildings. And the magical sound of the Italian language floating on the air.  Not to mention the wonderful food that is available throughout the region. A little piece of heaven here on earth.

You found a great scene and painted it very well. The composition leads the viewer into the painting.

Beautiful flowers can just make even the most desultory (not that these are) of buildings look amazing. I was immediately reminded of a painting done by Padmaja (I think it was) of Lombard street, as well as your own. Just the beauty of the plants and flowers...So dreamy!

Really, really, like this one, it captures the light and atmosphere of that part of the 'Mediterranean'
world exactly... so unlike the harsher light we get up here in the Northern Moors of the Bronte sisters - Yorkshire England.

Love the perspective and sense of light. Great!

Thank you all. I appreciate the comments on composition & perspective - always a challenge when there are numerous buildings. And I struggled with the light & shadow on this abit - I really wanted to get it "just right" if I could. John, thank you for commenting on the light & atmosphere - it means alot after working/re-working it!
