Monet's In the Garden - variation

This is a variation of the Monet painting "Jeanne Marguerite Lecadre in the Garden. I've cropped the image to focus strictly on the center tree in the garden with the red flowers below it. Here is a link to view & read about this famous painting.

Back in the early 1970's, I went to the Whitney Museum in NY for the first time to see an exhibit on Impressionism. I found it interesting until I saw this one painting on a wall. I don't remember a single other painting from that day, except for this one. I must have stood in front of this painting for a good 1/2 hour, just studying the lights and shadows. It was then that I first fell in love with impressionistic painting.

I always wanted to paint a variation of this wonderful painting, and the DPW challenge from last Saturday gave me a good push to do so. Monet is one artist that has strongly influenced how I see light and shadow.

This is done on a 6x6 inch stretched canvas - the image has been extended onto the 1-1/2 inch gallery edges.
