Anthuriums in Pink

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This was my rendition of the Wet Canvas floral challenge this month. I never knew the name of these but have always found them to be quite fascinating. I did try growing them but did not have any luck.

This was my second attempt at painting these flowers for this challenge. I had tried doing a version in a form of realism painting, but starting struggling too much. After 2 days of "trying" - I tossed it aside, took out a new canvas and chose a different reference to paint. This time I did the "shapes" that I prefer and am quite pleased with the final outcome.

They are such weird and wonderful plants. Your style works very well with this subject. It reminds me of vintage tropical print fabric - something for cushions on the rattan furniture.
