A Public Landscape

This was done for the Studio Atelier challenge called A Public Landscape. Barb Benik, who runs this challenge, posted a photo of a local median strip that had an abundant display of flowers. I'm amazed that so many flowers are in the median of a busy road, and all are so healthy.  Needless to say, I couldn't paint them without focusing on the shapes & colors!

I'm not sure about the balance in this, but I did love the lilac background and strong brown-green stalks and foliage. Let me know what you think.

There are many artist renditions on the site, so many eyes see things so many different ways - use the link to head over and view them.

I like your shapes and colors. I did enjoy seeing the vastly different takes on the same source image. I think you picked the most interesting point in the photo.

Very interesting crop on the photo, Nancie. I really like the gray and lavender shadows. Great job!

The shapes and colors are perfectly complimenting each other and the composition has a great flow of energy, Nancy, this is so lovely!

Thank you all. When I do these types of paintings, I'm never really sure the composition and balance are working in them. Usually I put them aside, then months later I look and say "oh, it needs a spot of this color here & another one there!"
