Plumeria

This is 1 of 2 floral paintings done for the Wet Canvas Floral groups challenge for September. It was hard to choose which one of the photo references that were posted, as they were all beautiful & striking. But this yellow one caught my eye and I couldn't resist doing it as abstract blocks of color rather than in a realistic format. As I once said before, there are far more talented artists out there that can do realism perfectly - I would rather paint the the shapes & colors. Perhaps one day I will switch styles (again).

Below is a second painting done for the same challenge. I loved the shapes and shades to this one and had to attempt it, again without the realism. I like how they both came out.

If you get the chance, click on the link for the forum (above) and look through all the renditions, some are very, very good!

Both are Acrylic on 9x12 canvas

Oh, I am especially fond of the yellow one. Good decision to go abstracted there. It is really interesting--color choices are vibrant.

The way you add abstractness to your work is so admiring Nancie. Both the paintings are beautifully done.I liked the background color in the previous one,the subject just pops out.

I do love the way a still life or floral looks when abstracted. It gives the viewer different levels & places to look. Thank you.
