VPO - Hawaii - "The Red Mailbox"

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This is my second Hawaii painting for the June Virtual Paintout. And again I've focused on the vegetation, except it's not just green this time! I found some red in the front yard landscape, and added the red roof and red mailbox to balance the scene (magic #3 for items, so 3 red items). This one is definitely more abstract, with shapes & shades the majority of the painting.

It has a nice feel, a nice composition. I looks a lot like watercolor.

Ooh, that rd roof and the red mailbox just are exquisite little gems hidden in this piece, Nancie. I like this one even more than the last. The sky, too, is exquisite!

I really like the roof peeping out through all of that lush foliage. The depth of color in this painting almost does justice to the shocking color in Hawaii. It almost hurts the eye it's so bright and colorful! I tried to find a good view on Google Street view but couldn't find anything! You found two great views!

Thank you all. It's interesting - of the two paintings I did for the Hawaii challenge, I thought less of this one than the other. Yet this one has gotten more response! Paula - I actually had some trouble in Google, finding things to paint. I found a few "maybe's" but nothing until these two came up. And in both, I had to modify things a bit to make it more interesting. But the different views that the others are finding makes me think I look too hard at the whole scene on my screen and maybe should look into the images for the smaller scene that's asking to be painted!
