"On the Beach" - Sri Lanka
6x12 acrylic on canvas
Available through DPW gallery/auction
This painting is for this months VPO which is visiting Sri Lanka. The original Google map view can be seen here.
I was thrilled when I stumbled on this view - I did a bit of editing to clean up a few areas, removed the house next to it, removed a few palms. But it was a perfect image for my "slices of life" scale of 6x12, and I thought it spoke of beach life rather well. The colored towels (laundry?) hanging out front added a nice touch of color. (there was additional items hanging on a line between the trees, but they were in shadow & I thought to just leave them out).
I love to "edit" these images, to take the best and omit the not as great items. I toyed with the idea of changing the color of the house to maybe a bright yellow, but scrapped that idea after playing around with the image on the computer. The house became way too bold and I wanted a tranquil scene.
Have any of you seen the holiday commercial for Corona beer? It's aired the past few Christmas's - well, I thought of that while I painted. Even whistled the song a bit!

This is great Nan. A real feeling of sunshine and ocean breeze. I also love the image next to it on Google with the sailing boats on the beach.
Thanks Sea, coming from you (whom I consider to be an expert on painting the sea - no pun intended), that is quite the compliment. I saw that photo of the sailing boats on the beach also - unfortunately, Google allows people to upload their photos and we aren't allowed to paint those. Only what can be seen/found through their street views. But maybe a major variation on those boats......
